    The Bank of Maracaibo was the first bank in Venezuela, founded in the city of Maracaibo, Zulia State, on May 11, 1882 . It held its first general shareholders' meeting on July 20 of the same year and opened its doors to the public during the month of January 1883 . Its Board of Directors was made up of Messrs. Ramón March, Ángel Urdaneta and AF Vargas.
    With a capital of Bs. 160,000, it laid the foundations to be a centennial bank. It enjoyed a great reputation inside and outside of Venezuela and was a banknote issuer in denominations of 20, 40, 50, 100, 200, 400 and 500.
